Purple Lights Nights 2026

About us

Purple Lights Nights occurs every year in October to “shine more light” on intimate partner violence in our communities. Purple Lights Nights began in Covington, Washington, in 2006, organized by the Covington Domestic Violence Task Force. In 1992, the communities of Abbotsford and Mission in British Columbia created the Violence Against Women In Relationships [VAWIR] Committee. VAWIR adopted this campaign, and in October of every year, we now host an annual Purple Lights Nights Campaign.

This campaign is held in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence, and to support those who are still living with abuse and those who have survived intimate partner violence. The Purple Lights Nights Campaign is meant to increase awareness among community members about the presence and effects of intimate partner violence in our communities, and increase awareness about the available supports and programs.

2026 PLN Launch

Every October, PLN has traditionally kicked off its campaign at the Abbotsford Farmers Market on the first Saturday of the month. We always have resources available, people to talk to about services, and often speakers with lived experience as a victim/survivor or a service provider. Are you planning to come this year? More information on this coming soon!

Show Your Support

There are many ways you can support the campaign! Here are a few of our favourites…

Wear Purple!

In 1978, women marched through Washington, D.C. wearing shades of purple as a sign of unity. Purple represents peace, courage, survival, and strength to end violence.

Display Purple Lights & Decorations!

You may be wearing purple, but what if your home or business wore purple as well!?

Donate Items to Local Support Services

Many support services who assist victims/survivors of violence rely on community donations. Consider donating to a local support service this October.
